About Carlos Fernandez
Carlos Fernandez explores the intersections of geometry and repetition. While his work tends to feature a certain flatness often associated with minimalism, his lightness of touch and continued exploration of an image (either natural or mathematical) lifts the work into associations with the Mission School and even Agnes Martin.
A true postmodernist, Fernandez has recently begun to repaint images he finds in art magazines, turning a massive Ellsworth Kelly painting or a Carl Billingsley’s sculpture into a delicate and lyrical watercolor, and engaging in conversations about prior art movements and their effect of the present.
